The Graduate Fellowship Program

The Graduate Fellowship Program consists of Graduate Writing Fellows, Graduate Quantitative Fellow, and a Graduate Access Fellow (new pilot position, Fall 2025). This peer-to-peer program offers graduate students in all academic disciplines support in all aspects of the writing process, quantitative reasoning assistance, and support accessing resources. While the fellows are connected to specific academic programs, each fellow will spent two hours each week on campus to provide support to all graduate students on campus.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, there will be one Graduate Writing Fellow (GWF) associated with the following academic programs:
- Counselor Education
- Criminal Justice
- Psychology
- MPA Program
- Social Work
- Special Education
For the 2024-2025 academic year, there will be two Graduate Writing Fellows (GWFs) associated with the MSW program in the School of Social Work.
Requirements to Apply to be a Graduate Writing Fellow:
- Be enrolled in at least six graduate credits each fall and spring semester
- Demonstrate strong writing skills
- Be knowledgeable of specific writing style guides (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
- Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Responsibilities of Graduate Writing Fellow:
- Work 10 hours per week for a specific academic discipline
- Of the 10 hours, work two hours per week at the College of Graduate Studies with students from specific academic disciplines and other academic disciplines. The remaining 8 hours per week are worked remotely.
- Assist students with writing projects via face-to-face meetings, email, telephone calls, and virtual meetings via Zoom
- Provide writing assistance, as relevant, to all students in a specific academic program through workshops, newsletters, writing tips, program Blackboard sites, classroom visits, etc.
- Present at least two GWF workshops each semester, either to specific program or university-wide
- Attend monthly training at workshops presented by the Director of the Graduate Writing Fellowship Program
- Attend the Graduate Fellowship Orientation in September
- Participate in the spring Student Arts and Research Symposium
Compensation:
- Tuition/Fees Reimbursement for six graduate credits each fall and spring semester
- Bi-weekly stipend
- Parking Pass
For the 2025-2026 academic year, there will be one Graduate Quantitative Fellow (GQF) associated with the following academic programs:
- Computer Science
Requirements to Apply to be a Graduate Quantitative Fellow:
- Be enrolled in at least six graduate credits each fall and spring semester
- Demonstrate strong knowledge in quantitative reasoning, basic mathematics skills, algebra, intermediate statistics as tools to answer research questions
- Be knowledgeable of specific computer platforms for quantitative/statistical analysis (SPSS, STATA, R, etc.)
- Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Responsibilities of Graduate Quantitative Fellow:
- Work 10 hours per week for a specific academic discipline
- Of the 10 hours, work two hours per week at the College of Graduate Studies with students from specific academic disciplines and other academic disciplines. The remaining 8 hours per week are worked remotely.
- Assist students with writing projects via face-to-face meetings, email, telephone calls, and virtual meetings via Zoom

- Clinical Psychology
Requirements to Apply to be a Graduate Access Fellow:
- Be enrolled in at least six graduate credits each fall and spring semester
- Demonstrate strong knowledge in quantitative reasoning, basic mathematics skills, algebra, intermediate statistics as tools to answer research questions
- Willingness to work closely with other Graduate Fellows, faculty, and staff to contribute to a supportive academic community
- Has a commitment to accessibility, equity, and inclusion
- Experience working with a diverse student population
- Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Responsibilities of Graduate Access Fellow:
- Work 10 hours per week for a specific academic discipline
- Of the 10 hours, work two hours per week at the College of Graduate Studies with students from specific academic disciplines and other academic disciplines. The remaining 8 hours per week are worked remotely.
- Assist students with writing projects via face-to-face meetings, email, telephone calls, and virtual meetings via Zoom
- Support students in organizing and prioritizing academic tasks.
- Communicate regularly with students receiving support to understand their evolving academic needs and preferences.
- Help students navigate and use assistive technologies or tools.
- Attend monthly training at workshops presented by the Director of the Graduate Writing Fellowship Program
- Attend the Graduate Fellowship Orientation in September
- Participate in the spring Student Arts and Research Symposium

To request a meeting with a graduate fellow, please use your BSU credentials to log into the Graduate Fellowship website and select a 45-minute meeting with a fellow based on your program and/or schedule. All fellows can support all graduate students in any program!
